Academic tutoring at Gentle Roots is designed for students in grades K–12 who need more than traditional homework help. We use evidence-based teaching methods, including Direct Instruction and Precision Teaching, to identify skill gaps, provide explicit instruction, and continuously measure progress.

Each student's program is individualized based on their current performance. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all curriculum, we use data to determine what to teach, how quickly to move forward, and when additional practice or a different teaching approach is needed.

Two Methods, Working Together

Explicit teaching builds the skill. Careful measurement tells us how well it is taking hold.

Direct Instruction

Direct Instruction breaks academic skills into clear, manageable steps. New skills are explicitly taught, modeled, practiced with support, and gradually moved toward independent use.

Students receive frequent opportunities to respond and immediate feedback so errors can be corrected before they become habits.

Precision Teaching

Precision Teaching allows us to measure not only whether a student can perform a skill correctly, but also how fluently and efficiently they can use it.

Brief, repeated practice and ongoing data collection help us see exactly how quickly a student is progressing. Instruction is then adjusted based on the student's actual performance.

This means we don't have to guess whether tutoring is working—we can see it in the data.

Tutoring is available for students in kindergarten through 12th grade and may target skills such as:

We measure student performance throughout instruction so progress can be monitored closely. If a student is progressing quickly, we move forward. If progress slows, we adjust our teaching approach.
